immixr v2.0

Update 02/03/2017: immixr.me is no longer actively maintained.

Back in 2014, I started working on a social media aggregation tool at a hackathon with Gus Boling. Since 2014, I’ve continued developing the project. In December of 2015, I relaunched immixr with a new purpose. This version of immixr was first created for my personal website. I wanted a way to embed my Instagram feed into my website as a multimedia background. After looking at the available options like Instafeed.js and instansive, I decided to create my own plugin so I could make it work exactly how I wanted.

The script running on my personal website

After I wrote the script to pull my photos to my personal website, I decided to share the simple script, so others could use it on their site if they want. I threw together a very basic website for immixr based on the Bukku Template and put it on GitHub.

The landing page for the script

The script allows you to specify the account that it pulls photos from, the biggest image you want displayed in the grid, the spacing between the photos, and the opacity of the images. immixr also expands to fit whatever container you place it in, and has responsive properties so that it looks great on any screen size.

Showing the responsiveness of immixr

I’ve found that immixr is great for segues on websites, where it can offer a colorful way to show your group’s vitality or a muted, beautiful background.

Example of immixr in a segue

I hope you get a chance to try it out!
